Creede is a statutory town governed by a Board of Trustees composed of a mayor and six council members. Officials are elected to four year terms on a staggered schedule. Elections occur in April of even-numbered years. Any registered voter, who has resided within the Creede city limits for 12 months prior to an election, may run for office upon submitting a nomination petition through the office of the City Manager. The Board of Trustees meets regularly on the first Monday of each month. Elected officials receive $75 per month compensation.
The City of Creede supports the Creede Arts and Recreation Department which provides many beneficial activities and programs for the community. "City News," a monthly newsletter, is published by the City Manager's office. An annual subscription is available for $6.00 postage and handling. The City of Creede also has a Planning Commission composed of three residents and three trustees. In 2001, Creede received recognition from Governor Bill Owens as a "Colorado Heritage Community."
